Four Fine Motor Activities

Straw Activity:

What you need:
Straws
Pipe Cleaners
Scissor

Instructions:

First twist a couple pipe cleaners together at the ends to make one long pipe cleaner. Then cut the straws into three pieces.  After that, let your child put the straws on the pipe cleaner.

Talk about the colors as your child is grabbing them.  Notice how many of each color they put on their pipe cleaner.

Cheerio Activity:

What you need:
Cheerios or Fruit Loops
Strainer
Pipe Cleaners

Instructions:
Put the strainer upside-down and poke the pipe cleaners through some of the holes.  Make sure the pipe cleaners are sticking upward.  Then let your child put the cereal on the pipe cleaners.  Help count the cheerios as they put them on.  If you are using fruit loops, notice the colors they are choosing to put on the pipe cleaners.

Golf Tee Push:

What you need:
Golf Tees
Old Box

Instructions:
Let your child push the golf tees into the box.  If they are having trouble pushing the tees through, you can poke the holes first.  As your child is doing this activity, you can count together how many tees you can fit on the box.  If you have different color tees, you can also recognize the different colors.

Rip It Up Activity

What you need:
Old Magazines
Old Newspapers
Scrap Paper

Instructions:
Pick a spot in your home that has room to be messy.  Set out the magazines, newspapers and scrap paper.  Let your child rip them in strips.  While they are ripping, talk with them.  Notice how big, small, long, short the pieces they are ripping are.  Also, notice the different colors they are ripping.
